Coon, Reuben

b. July 22, 1821, in New Jersey; d. November 7, 1871, in Springfield, Illinois. Coon married Sarah Lewis in Springfield, Illinois, and they had three children. In 1852, Coon was a stockholder in the Mechanics and Farmers Bank in Springfield, Illinois. In 1860, he made his living as a leather merchant and manufacturer of shoes and boots in Sangamon County, Illinois, and possessed personal property worth $5,000 and real estate worth $2,000. Coon's custom-made shoe business employed about eighty men.
